DStv is removing five channels from a popular package

Translate

DStv is cutting five channels from its Add Indian package, leaving subscribers with just three channels from the end of October.

MultiChoice notified customers of the change in an email sent on 30 September 2026, saying it was refining the line-up to better reflect how customers watch content.

The changes will take effect on 31 October 2026.

Five channels are being removed

According to MyBroadband, the five channels being dropped from the R280 Add Indian package are:

ChannelChannel number
SET Asia450
Zee TV452
SET Max457
Zee Cinema460
WION461

After the changes, the package will have just three channels: Star Plus (453), Star Vijay (455) and Colors TV (456).

MultiChoice reportedly said the Add Indian package would remain available in South Africa and that customers would continue to have access to Indian entertainment.

The broadcaster said it was moving towards “fewer, stronger channels” rather than spreading similar content across a larger number of channels.

Will the R280 price change though?

This, of course, is one of the biggest unanswered questions for subscribers. The email informing customers about the channel removals did not confirm whether the R280 monthly price would immediately change.

However, MultiChoice said it would provide details about a reduced-price offer soon.

That means subscribers could potentially pay less for the significantly smaller package, although the broadcaster has not yet confirmed the new price.

The Add Indian changes come shortly after DStv made its biggest bouquet overhaul in more than two decades.

In September, the broadcaster announced a major restructure of its packages, almost a year after its acquisition by France’s Canal+.

Among the changes was the migration of DStv Compact customers to DStv Sports, which remains priced at R399 per month for the streaming-only service.

The package includes more sports content while retaining entertainment programming that was previously available on Compact. Subscribers also received access to Wethu+, a new channel combining content from Mzansi Wethu, Mzansi Magic, Bioskop Movies and selected PSL fixtures.

DStv also introduced a Movies & Series package at R500 per month for viewers more interested in premium entertainment than sport. It includes channels such as M-Net, kykNET, M-Net Movies+ and BBC Earth.

At the cheaper end, EasyView remains available for R30 per month with more than 30 channels, while the Premium package was left unchanged.

DStv has carried Indian channels for decades

The changes also mark another step in the long-running evolution of DStv’s Indian offering.

MultiChoice first introduced its Indian Bouquet in 2001, and the package has since been restructured and rebranded several times.

In 2015, DStv combined its North Indian and South Indian packages into a single Indian package, which was priced at R319 per month at the time and could also be added to other packages for an additional monthly fee.

The combined offering originally contained eight channels, although its line-up has changed through subsequent rebrands and channel changes.

MultiChoice says the latest reduction is intended to create a simpler line-up while continuing to provide Indian-focused entertainment.
