Baguio probing into reported case of school violence

BAGUIO CITY — The city government is addressing reported cases of student violence as the Pinget National High School urged the public to stop sharing a video involving its learners, saying its continued circulation could affect the minors involved.

Local officials on Friday reported that the cases are being investigated and reiterated the city’s zero-tolerance stance toward violence.

Information from Police Station 2 said Grade 9 and Grade 10 students were involved in an incident at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday outside the school.

The report also noted the involvement of the Baguio City Police Office in addressing the incidents.

Pinget National High School separately issued an official statement on Friday  acknowledging a video circulating on social media involving its learners.

The school stressed that physical violence, bullying or any form of abuse has no place within the institution and stated it takes all cases ofmisconduct seriously.

Pinget National High School said it remains committed to maintaining a safe, nurturing and supportive learning environment for its students.

Because those involved are minors, the school appealed to the public and online community to stop sharing, reposting or otherwise circulating the footage.

It said continued dissemination of the video could expose the children to public shaming and humiliation, targeted online harassment and insults, cyberthreats and other forms of digital abuse. It also warned that further circulation could contribute to a continuing cycle of violence and trauma.

The school said its administration and designated child protection committees are already managing the matter in accordance with school protocols and regulations.

It also appealed to the public to allow school officials, proper authorities and social workers to address the situation while respecting the privacy, dignity and overall well-being of the learners involved.
