CJP Warns Of Fresh Protests, To Decide Strategy In Monday Meeting

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) will convene a meeting of its National Working Committee on Monday to assess the government's fulfillment of its post-protest commitments and decide its next course of action.

In a statement on Sunday, the CJP said that "all measures necessary to secure the government's fulfillment of its commitments will be on the table, including another round of peaceful nationwide agitation."

The CJP has requested students, young citizens, and volunteers nationwide to stay prepared. The announcement follows a statement expressing "grave concern over the Union government's conduct" after the CJP suspended its initial protest movement on July 25 based on official assurances.

CJP Points To Court Proceedings

The CJP leadership states that the immediate trigger for the renewed friction occurred during an August 18 hearing before the Supreme Court.

According to CJP leaders, the bench repeatedly sought government cooperation to clear legal cases pending against demonstration participants.

The CJP noted, "The Supreme Court asked the Union Government three separate times to provide a consolidated list of FIRs registered against students and protesters across the country so that the Court could use its extraordinary powers under Article 142 of the Constitution to quash them all at one go."

Despite the court's repeated requests, the CJP alleged that the government failed to commit to submitting the list.

'Unfulfilled Demands and Ongoing Negotiations'

The CJP highlighted that while initial demonstrations successfully achieved the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, broader systemic commitments remain unfulfilled. The CJP noted that government representatives have failed to formally reach out to document progress on key terms, including the complete withdrawal or quashing of all protest-related FIRs, guarantees against future punitive action for peaceful protesters, and written assurances regarding "honourable compensation for the families of the deceased NEET victims."

Emphasising that its previous willingness to stand down was an act of good faith, the CJP asserted, "Our good faith must not be mistaken for weakness. We will not allow the government to insult an entire generation by making promises to end a peaceful movement and then attempting to wriggle out of those very promises once the streets have emptied."
