Bonoan clinically stable; discharge up to Sandiganbayan – PNP hospital

MANILA, Philippines—Former Public Works and Highways secretary Manuel Bonoan is clinically stable but under maintenance medication, according to Lt. Col Benaly Bayani, chief for internal medicine of the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital.

“Si Engineer Bonoan presently clinically stable po siya, controlled sa ngayon ang hypertension niya, under medication sa supervision ng ating medical team,” Bayani told reporters at Camp Crame on Wednesday.

(“Engineer Bonoan is currently clinically stable; his hypertension is under control, and he is on medication under the supervision of our medical team.”)

Bonoan was accused of involvement in an alleged P573-million kickback scheme linked to the infrastructure corruption scandal, and remains at the PNP General Hospital.

On Tuesday, the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division dropped Bonoan as an accused in the plunder and graft charges he was facing.

Asked when Bonoan could be discharged from hospital arrest, Bayani said in Filipino, “It depends on them (Sandiganbayan) what order they will give us.”

“Kung maalala ninyo dati na siya may medical condition so kinontinue lang namin kung ano ang medical treatment and regarding doon sa update yun lang naman ang instruction sa akin,” said Bayani.

(“If you recall, he already had a medical condition before, so we simply continued with his existing medical treatment. As for the update, that’s the only instruction I was given.”) 

A medical certificate dated May 29, issued by Bonoan’s personal physician, showed that he was diagnosed with Stage IV chronic renal disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, gouty arthritis, spondylolisthesis, a spinal condition, and prostate cancer.

Bayani said Bonoan’s blood pressure is under control and he continues to attend hearings without any medical issues.
