The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has summoned a taxi operator after one of its drivers was caught on camera throwing trash on the road while driving.

The video went viral on social media, which prompted authorities to act upon it.

The LTFRB said that the Green and Smart Mobility Philippines, Inc. could be held liable if their drivers failed to show discipline while on the road.

“This is not only about existing ordinance relating to littering. This is also about common sense because no motorist in his right mind would do that,” said LTFRB acting chairperson Greg Pua Jr. in a statement.

In the show-cause order issued by the LTFRB, the taxi operator must explain why its authority to operate must not be suspended or canceled after what one of their drivers did.

The taxi operator was also ordered to provide an explanation from the involved driver and let him undergo a seminar.

“Roads are not trash sites. Bilang responsableng operator at car owners, dapat ay mayroong kahit na maliit na lagayan ng basura sa loob ng sasakyan,” said Pua.

(Roads are not trash sites. As responsible operators and car owners, there should be at least a small trash container inside the vehicle.)

The hearing of the case was set on October 21.
