註:find out 通常指經探索或觀察而發現某些資訊,例如:to find out the truth, to find out how to do something 等。找到失去的錢包、找到追求的目標之類,一般會用 to find。

註:to go to bed 是「就寢」、「上床」;本句中的 to go to sleep 是 「睡著」、「入睡」,兩者不可相混。

χ He never studies from the better students.

註:「向某人學習」是 to learn (something) from(或 of),不是 to study from。

4. 我從他那得知王先生幾個月前去世了。

ˇ I learned from him that Mr. Wang had passed away a few months ago.

χ I knew from him that Mr. Wang had passed away a few months ago.

註:to learn from someone 表示「從某人那聽來」、「從某人那得悉」,不可以說 to know from someone。又to learn from someone 也可作「向某人學習……」解。參上例。

5. 我和她相識已經很久了。

ˇ I have known her for a long time.

ˇ I met her a long time ago.

ˇ I got acquainted with her a long time ago.

χ I have recognized her a long time .

註:recognize 是「認出」、「看出」,意為「見了某人而認識」,是瞬間動詞,不可與表示持續時間的副詞連用。

to know、to get acquainted with 或 to make one’s acquaintance 是「與…相識」。
