Translate

A driver has died following the Kalgoorlie Desert Race yesterday.

The 20-year-old man was driving on an unsealed section of the racetrack around 4.30pm when he lost control of his Toyota Prado station sedan and rolled.

The Kalgoorlie Desert Race took place over four days.

Earlier in the day, hundreds had turned out to the remote strip of racetrack in Kanowna, near Lake Perkolilli, to watch the final day of the annual off-road racing competition.

WA Police said the 20-year-old driver died at the scene.

Three passengers, a 60-year-old woman and two girls, aged 14 and 12, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Major Crash investigators are conducting and examination of the scene and are appealing for anyone who attended the Kalgoorlie Desert Race and saw the vehicle prior to the crash to contact Crime Stoppers.
