Enhanced habagat to bring heavy rain in Luzon, western Visayas next week

MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rains are expected to affect more areas in Luzon, as well as the western section of Visayas, early next week due to the enhanced southwest monsoon, or habagat, the state weather bureau said Saturday.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Daniel Villamil said during the 5 p.m weather advisory that heavy monsoon rains are expected between Monday or Tuesday due to the effects of Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Saudel.
“Dahil yung general movement nga nitong si Typhoon Saudel ay generally west northwestward. So, posible itong dumaplis sa northern boundary ng ating PAR, wala man itong magiging pag ulan o wala itong dalang pagulan sa atin, ay hahatakin ito or palalakasin yung habagat. Possible as early as Monday or Tuesday next week,” he said.

(Since Typhoon Saudel is generally moving west northwestward, it is possible for it to pass along the northern boundary of our Philippine Area of Responsibility [PAR]. Even if it doesn’t bring rain directly to us, it could pull in or intensify the southwest monsoon. This is possible as early as Monday or Tuesday next week.)

“Sa mga susunod na araw, asahan natin na mas darami pang areas yung mga makakaranas ng pagulan, particular na dito sa Luzon, including Metro Manila and portions ng Western Visayas,” he added.
(In the coming days, we can expect more areas to experience rainfall—particularly here in Luzon, including Metro Manila and parts of Western Visayas.)
As of 3 p.m, Saudel was estimated 2,555 kilometers (km) east of Northern Luzon outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) moving northwestward at 15 km per hour.

Meanwhile, the Tropical Depression located 1,055 km east of Eastern Visayas is likely to enter the PAR on Saturday evening. However, Villamil maintained that the weather disturbance would not have a direct effect on the country.
“Less likely po tayong magkaroon ng tropical cyclone wind signal. Kasi sa mga susunod na oras, ay magre-recurve rin ito immediately northeastward papalayo sa ating PAR. And eventually, posible man itong lumakas bilang isang Tropical Storm and eventually, ang malulusaw dahil sa interaction nito sa mas malakas na bagyong Saudel,” he explained.

(It is less likely that a tropical cyclone wind signal will be raised. This is because, in the coming hours, the system is expected to immediately recurve northeastward, moving away from the PAR. While it may eventually intensify into a Tropical Storm, it is also possible that it will dissipate due to its interaction with the stronger Typhoon Saudel.)
The southwest monsoon may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, the rest of Cagayan Valley, and the rest of Central Luzon on Sunday, according to Pagasa.
Likewise, scattered rains may also prevail over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Cagayan, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, and Pampanga due to the habagat.
