MANILA, Philippines – The Marikina River was placed under first alarm on Wednesday morning after its water level reached 15 meters amid heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon or habagat, according to the Marikina local government.

Residents in areas near the river were advised to prepare for possible evacuation under the first alarm.

Should the river’s water levels surge to 16 meters, a second alarm will be raised, prompting voluntary evacuation.
