NSMQ 2026: Kumasi Sec. Tech. deny St. Mary’s one-eighth spot after late comeback bid

Translate

Kumasi Sec. Tech. SHS has denied St. Mary’s SHS a place in the One-Eighth Stage of the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after holding off a late charge from the Merries to win the contest at the CNC Auditorium.

St. Mary’s looked increasingly threatening as the contest progressed, cutting what was initially a seven-point deficit to just three points by the end of Round Three. With the Merries within striking distance at 27–24, the contest appeared set for a tense finish — but Kumasi Sec. Tech. had the stronger response.

The Kumasi side answered three questions correctly in the final round, while St. Mary’s managed just one. That decisive difference carried Kumasi Sec. Tech. to a 49–34 victory, leaving the Merries’ comeback unfinished and ending their One-Eighth hopes. Agona SHTS ended the contest on 24 points.

Kumasi Sec. Tech. completed the double, winning the contest and the GOIL Riddle Bonanza to advance to the One-Eighth Stage, while Agona SHTS walked away with a cash prize from the JuPay Clean Sheet award.

The 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz is produced by Primetime Limited and sponsored by the Ghana Education Service, with support from Goil PLC, Prudential Life Insurance, Pepsodent, Trustur AI, Jupay Money Transfer, Lumevax, GTP, SpinCITI Laundromat, Didi Jollof, Bel Beverages, Accra College of Medicine and Coronation Insurance.
