Transfer report: Thabo Cele from Kaizer Chiefs to Mamelodi Sundowns

Translate

According to SABC Sport, negotiations between the former Kaizer Chiefs star and Sundowns are already at an advanced stage. The 29-year-old has emerged as a priority target for Mamelodi Sundowns following the tragic passing of Jayden Adams.

THABO CELE COULD MAKE QUICK RETURN

The developments come just days after Thabo Cele left Amakhosi. The Brazilians are now looking to add more depth to their engine room.

That will be crucial with a demanding domestic and continental campaign ahead. The midfielder mutually agreed to terminate his contract with Amakhosi on Monday night.

Cele had spent the past several weeks training away from the first team. He also missed Kaizer Chiefs’ pre-season camp in Spain.

New head coach Fernando Da Cruz had reportedly made it clear that Cele was no longer part of his plans. The midfielder now appears to have a chance to make an immediate return to top-level football.

And it could come in familiar surroundings.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS CLOSE IN ON THABO CELE AFTER KAIZER CHIEFS EXIT

If the deal is completed, Thabo Cele would become the latest high-profile free agent to join Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Brazilians recently strengthened their defence with the signing of former Orlando Pirates right-back Deano Van Rooyen.

Cele would add further experience and depth to an already strong midfield. Personal terms are still being finalised, according to SABC Sport.

“SABC Sport understands Thabo Cele has emerged as a high-priority target for Mamelodi Sundowns, with talks between the midfielder and the African champions believed to have reached an advanced stage,” the report said.

However, talks are said to be progressing rapidly. The former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder could now be on his way to Chloorkop. Meanwhile, Sundowns currently have Teboho Mokoena, Bathusi Aubaas in the number six role, with Gomolemo Kekana facing an uncertain future after turning down a new deal offer.
