Manchester United will be hoping to get back to more positive news when the Premier League returns this weekend.

The Red Devils have suffered numerous injury blows in the three-week international break, while they have had a stuttering start to the new league season, picking up just five points in their first five games.

A Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Brighton has compounded Michael Carrick’s early-campaign headache, and the former midfielder has five more players on the treatment table as he prepares for the visit of Tottenham on Saturday.

Marcus Rashford

Rashford picked up a minor injury in the dying embers of United’s draw at Fulham last month, and he pulled out of England duty before the Three Lions’ four matchesI tr.

He had landed awkwardly after a heavy tackle tight to the touchline

"We had to bring him off, as he had a bit of an issue. I'm not sure [if he's alright],” Carrick said post-match.

It is hoped he will have shaken off that knock by the time Tottenham visit Old Trafford this weekend.

Kobbie Mainoo

Mainoo sparked concern when he withdrew from England’s squad for the international break along with Rashford.

No clear reason was given for his pulling out, though, and he is not thought to be injured. Instead, his load will have been managed after a heavy start to the season in United’s engine room.

He will be expected to feature against Spurs.

The Ivorian is still yet to play for United this term after sustaining an ankle problem in pre-season.

The winger was believed to be weeks away from a comeback after the international break, and now there is real optimism that he could feature against Tottenham at the weekend to bolster United’s depth in forward areas.

Benjamin Sesko

Sesko has been suffered a flare-up of the shin injury which saw him miss the latter stages of last season and the opening of the new campaign.

He had seemed to be back at full fitness after starting against Sabah, but was a surprise absentee for the trip to Fulham.

Carrick said of the Slovenian: “It was a pain in his shin. We’re not sure with him yet. He felt a bit of pain after the game. We’re assessing him. He definitely wasn’t ready for today.”

He decided against representing his country during the international break, but it remains to be seen whether he will be fit to play for United after it.

Karl Darlow

Backup goalkeeper Darlow was another victim of the international break, dropping out of the Wales squad with an injury.

The nature and severity of his issue is not clear.

Ugarte remains in his rehabilitation stage after having surgery on an ACL tear suffered representing Uruguay at the World Cup.

He is set to miss the majority of the season, but, after being transfer-listed last summer, it remains to be seen whether he will play for the club again.

Potential return date: Spring/Summer 2027

Tom Heaton

United’s third-choice shot-stopper has been absent throughout this season with a hamstring injury sustained in a pre-season friendly against Paris Saint-Germain last month.
