Private prosecutor Theodore Te will conduct the direct examination of Davao City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte, who appeared at the Senate impeachment for the trial of his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.

Te is known for previously serving as spokesperson of the Supreme Court during the tenure of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno from 2013 to 2018.

He is also the interim chairperson of the Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG), a nationwide organization of human rights lawyers in the Philippines. Te has been part of the organization since 1991 after passing the bar examinations.

As a lawyer, Te presented oral arguments on the death penalty and the Anti-Terrorism Law of 2020.

He also represented journalists in libel and cyberlibel cases.

Te has represented death row prisoners before international human rights organizations and advocated for the abolition of the death penalty at both domestic and international events.

Te finished his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of the Philippines.

He took up his bachelors of laws also in UP and later earned a master of laws in Columbia University in the US.

Te is currently a full-time faculty in the UP College of Law as assistant professor. He also teaches at the Ateneo Law School and has taught at the De La Salle University Tañada-Diokno School of Law.

The House prosecution panel tapped Te last June, along with other veteran lawyers Reynaldo Robles, Arnold Labay, and Mae Divinagracia, as private prosecutors for the vice president's impeachment trial. —VAL, GMA News
