Habagat to prevail but Neneng won’t directly affect PH, says Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon or habagat will continue to prevail in Luzon and parts of Visayas on Wednesday although Tropical Depression Neneng is forecast to not directly affect the country, according to the state weather bureau.
In the 5 a.m. weather forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said that the southwest monsoon will bring rains over Luzon and western section of Visayas such as Aklan and Antique while the rest of Visayas and Mindanao will see fair weather conditions with chances of localized thunderstorms.

Habagat will continue to bring heavy rainfall (100 to 200 millimeters of rainfall) over Zambales, Occidental Mindoro, and Bataan while Metro Manila, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Rizal, and Oriental Mindoro will experience significant rainfall (50-100 mm). With this, Dominguez warned of possible flooding and landslides.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said that Neneng was last estimated 675 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes as of 4 a.m. It slightly decelerated as it was moving northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour (kph).
It was carrying a maximum wind speed of 55 kph and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
“Wala [itong] magiging direktang epekto sa ating bansa at patuloy na kumikilos patungong Taiwan kung saan magla-landfall ito by Friday (This will not have a direct effect in the country and it will continue to move towards Taiwan where it will make landfall by Friday),” Dominguez said.
Pagasa also noted that Neneng will continue to move generally westward and may make landfall over the eastern coast of Taiwan between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. It is also forecast to remain as a tropical depression in the next 36 hours before it weakens into a remnant low on Friday morning.

Tropical depressions outside PH
As there are two tropical depressions outside the country, Dominguez shared that the tropical cyclone located 670 km west of Calayan, Cagayan will not directly affect the country. It was carrying a maximum wind speed of 45 kph and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
Meanwhile, the tropical depression estimated 3,090 km east of Northeastern Mindanao is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon that will bring rains in huge parts of the country next week. It was packing a maximum wind speed of 55 kph and gustiness of up to 75 kph. /mr
